Vasectomy

Is A Vasectomy The Best Option For You?

If you’re a guy who is contemplating a vasectomy as a means of birth control, then you need to bear in mind that once you have undertaken the procedure, the effects could be permanent. So if you think that you may want children at some point in the future, then you really should look at another form of birth control. There are some doctors who believe that you cannot reverse a vasectomy.

Drawbacks To A Vasectomy.

There are a few drawbacks to consider if you’re planning on a vasectomy. Firstly, there is small chance that the vasa deferentia could actually grow back, which basically means you could still end up fathering a child. It’s unlikely to happen, the odds are something like 1 in a 1000, so it’s very unlikely, but something you should be aware of.

You also need to be aware that after you have had a vasectomy, it is possible for you to still father children for up to 8 weeks afterwards. So be careful! During this period, the doctor will perform tests to see if you still have viable sperm, if so, then you will have to use another method of birth control temporarily.

Whilst a vasectomy is a dependable method of birth control, it will not offer you any protection from sexually transmitted diseases. If you wish to protect yourself from possible STD’s, then you are going to have to continue to use a condom still.

One last possible drawback to draw your attention too, a few experts are beginning to voice there concerns that a vasectomy could actually increase the risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, prostate cancer and also testicular cancer. There aren’t many doctors who are considering this threat seriously as yet and there haven’t as yet been many studies that back up these concerns. However, they have been voiced by some experts and I feel you should be aware of them. If you do decide to go ahead with a vasectomy, have a word with your doctor about any concerns that you may have and get all the vasectomy information you can.

Some Of The Complications You Could Face.

Besides the drawbacks we have just mentioned, there are also some potential complications that can arise from the vasectomy procedure. Problems that may arise include inflammation, scrotal pain, infection and possible bleeding within the scrotum. If you find yourself experiencing one of the following conditions, a lump in your scrotum, problems urinating, suffering a fever, and swelling that won’t go down and is worsening, then look to contact your doctor immediately!

The Benefits Of A Vasectomy!

So, what benefits can a vasectomy offer to you? Well the major benefit, especially with a monogamous relationship, is that you and your companion can enjoy unprotected sex without worrying about pregnancy. Also, it’s a far cheaper option than the alternative for women, which is tubal litigation. Tubal litigation involves a stay in hospital, whereas a vasectomy can be performed inside a family planning clinic or even your doctor’s office.

A vasectomy is not the best method of birth control for everyone. But if you and your companion are sure you don’t want anymore children, or if you’re companion suffers with a health condition where pregnancy could prove dangerous to her, then it may well be the best form of birth control for you!
